3 Wheel Double Buggy

Claire Our test participant, Claire, was impressed with the packaging. It was simple to open and clean. She found it to be one of the most simple and quick pieces of baby equipment to set up. She took it for a spin on some rough terrain and was thrilled with its performance.

Seats

Most 3 wheel stroller wheel double buggies are initially single pushchairs, although some can be converted to take the seat of a second person or carrycot with adapters (these are more commonly found in tandem buggies). Certain models let you add an extra board to older children who are able to walk but need some help.

For a light-weight option that is ideal for urban streets, look into the Joie Evalite Duo. It's easy to move and comes with a deep basket that has plenty of storage space. It can hold twins from birth and accommodate two car seats as well as an infant carrycot and seat. The seats must face towards the front and there is no space for a shopping bag under the seat. You will need a sidepack.

If you like to travel off-road then the Mountain Buggy Duet is a great choice. It's a side-by- tandem with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy that is available. It is easier to get through narrow doors on public transport, and to climb over and up kerbs. The adjustable handlebar features an additional handbrake for security and safety.

Another lightweight choice is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double, which can be used to accommodate twins or a toddler and baby. The seats come with multi-position recline and UPF 50+ sunshades while the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun out of your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into a triple by adding UPPAbaby’s 'PiggyBack’ board for older children.

The iCandy Orange is one of the most well-known double buggies on the market, thanks to its superb comfort. It's an all-terrain pushchair with a soft suspension, which is able to handle bumpy surfaces. It comes with 30 different seating options as well as a built-in table for older children who prefer to walk and a 'cinema' mode which raises the back seats to provide better visibility.

The phil&teds dot is a brilliant single buggy from day 1 that is able to easily be adapted to take 2 (or 3 wheel strollers!) Multiple configurations are possible. This is especially helpful when you have a child in a car seat as the frame can be fitted with a wedgie for optimum lying flat, or car seat adapters for various brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a double 3 wheel buggies-wheel buggy will determine how easy you and your child/children can push it. A smooth ride is essential since babies can feel every bump in the road, especially if it's on rough terrain such as grass or dirt roads. Certain models come with locking front tires that help maneuver and get over obstacles like curbs.

Certain models come with air-filled tyres that are great for all-terrain rides, but they can be prone punctures. Make sure you keep an extra set of tyres inside the trunk. Others have foam or gel tyres, which are designed to take the bumps and can be less prone to punctures however, you may find them a little stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back when you decide to run.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the Urban Glide 2 with her three-year-old and newborn, and found it to be extremely capable on terrain that is difficult to navigate. "It was able to effortlessly navigate sidewalks and grass cobbles, dirt, and tracks. It was also very easy for me to maneuver around corners and get up or down kerbs." The 16" rear wheels, combined with the lockable swivel wheels on the front, make it a very comfortable jogging experience. The Urban Glide 2 has a lot of features, including a large seat unit with a padded cover, hood with 50+ UV protection, and rechargeable and easy-to use visibility lights.

Folding

A cheap 3 wheel buggy-wheel double buggy can fold pretty easily to be stored. There are options that fold flat and then stand up (as if they were in a pushchair) and also those that pop open to reveal more of an umbrella-style fold, with a hand-operated brake. The more wheels a buggy has, generally the more easy it will be to maneuver over rough terrain. This is especially true if the wheels are bigger than the typical size. You will have more stability and it is less likely that you will need to flip or tip your child.

The iCandy Wave is a popular choice. It can be used with an infant car-seat from birth, and later converted into a double buggy side-byside when your child is old. It's a light option that is easy to push. It also comes with a bumper bar as well as a rain cover.

The phil&teds sports is an alternative option. It is future-proof as it's an excellent buggy and can be adapted to accommodate two (or three wheeler pushchair!) all within its compact footprint. It features an innovative three-wheel design that includes a sling for greater maneuverability and stability.

If you want to jog with your children, this is the best double buggie for jogging because it comes with a lockable swivel front wheel that can help you stay in control when you're on off-road or hilly tracks. It features a big undercarriage, a movable handlebar, and soft suspension that gives you a comfortable ride.

This is a lightweight compact and compact option that is easy to fold with just one hand. It's perfect for traveling. It is compatible with many infant car seats and includes a handy undercarriage bag to store shopping. Storage

It's also designed to withstand a bit rough terrain which makes it a great option for family walks or all-terrain strolls.

Other models, like the UPPAbaby Vista 2 offer plenty of space and flexibility to carry twins or even a baby and a toddler (it uses their 'PiggyBack' boards to allow this to be done). It's the slimmest side-by-side double in the market and it comes with some amazing tech including game-changing LED visibility lights on each side of the buggy frame to ensure safety in low light conditions.

The Joie Evalite Duo, a lightweight stroller that can accommodate twins from birth, and is world-facing with a lie-flat reclining position It's something completely different. The clever frame can be expanded to accommodate the additional seat, but it only weighs about 11kg so it's easy to lift and manoeuvre. It can be used with an infant car seat, a carrycot or both. This lets you have the best of both worlds.
