How to Replace an audi tt replacement key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two connector pins and Audi A5 Key Fob they perform different functions but the most effective method of testing it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. Look replacement key for audi evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline jump out but the 4th stays shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. However, i'm afraid that I may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the audi spare key replacement in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injectors, etc. In order to do this it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these goes badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in the gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. The good news is they are quite affordable and readily available, especially when you're looking at the Bosch sensor, which is what we have. You can also choose the GM version of this unit is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of issues in your car. It's a crucial component of the transmission in your Replacement audi a3 Key because it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the car's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the amount of fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see around 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This is a common part across the programming audi key 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good ones could be available in wrecking yards.
